What's in your heart?

"Why would God let this tragedy happen?", "What kind of God allows this horrible act of violence?", "I thought God was merciful and kind?"

As we look at the chaos unfolding and burning around us, what is the first thing that pops into most people's mind? How could this happen? Why would God let this happen? What kind of God allows this to happen?

I've seen it over and over and over and over again. It's a broken record that keeps playing the same scratchy tune.

Ask him. Go on, ask God why evil like this happens in the world. Some would say, "but I can't see him", or "he never replies when I pray to him", or "how can I ask a God that I can't see, touch, taste or feel" Interesting questions, so what is the answer?

Spiritual leaders have come and gone throughout the ages since recorded time. We have written about enlightened beings since we learned how to write. They come from different corners of the world, in different shapes and sizes, speaking different languages because they are from different cultures, races, and religions. What is one thing that unifies all of them? They speak to God through spirit and they share these experiences with anyone willing to listen with an open heart and an open mind. This is important because to understand God you have to understand yourself as a creation of God, as a child of God, and as a witness of God's divine love and mercy.

I was born in Texas, right on the border with Mexico in El Paso. It's right on the Rio Grande River and it was hot in the summer because it is a desert town. I loved living there as a kid, but as I got older that love turned into a yearning to know what the outside world was like. My roots are in Texas, and I still love every good thing I remember about it, the food, the rodeos, the people, the accents, and the southern charm.

The flooding in Texas with a death toll that is still rising hits hard at this moment because it's not the only major thing happening, we just elected a new president whose leadership skills and policies are very controversial and creating a divide in this country like we haven't seen since the Civil War. What people don't seem to understand is that everything our nation's leader does affects us in our daily lives, so when people tell you to keep politics out of the discussion, it is just not a realistic ask. One of the first things that President Trump did was to cut the budget for NOAA, National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, whose purpose for existence is to watch weather patterns and communicate with weather services so that people in charge of making sure the rest of us are safe have the information they need to adequately prepare for and respond to weather related natural disasters. People expressed themselves loud and clear that this was a very bad decision for the nation and yet, he went forward anyway. What is happening in Texas is directly related to the decision that President Trump made to cut funding and fire people, the people whose job it was to watch, study and communicate what's happening with the weather.

It came across my social media feed that a summer camp was hit hard and that at least 20 girls are missing, and what struck me was that the camp is an elite private Christian camp that has been active since 1926. The grief and pain that those parents are feeling must be unbearable, unfathomable, and could have been prevented. If the information of the intensity of the rains were accurately forecasted and communicated, people in the areas where the flooding occurred could have been notified to act in a more effective way, and lives could have been saved.

What really hit me hard is the question of why so many little girls? Why so many Christian little girls? The most innocent and the most vulnerable among us? This didn't just happen, it was a very strong spiritual message because of the grief that is now flowing in that town through those parents in that community, it's an energy that flows and is felt hard across the nation to anyone with a heart and soul. What is the message and what is God showing us?

Symbolism is everywhere and in everything, it is our spiritual communication, it is the way God speaks to our highest selves, our deepest soul.

Texas is a red state, a majority of the people in Texas voted for President Trump because his leadership, his messages, and is spirit aligned with theirs. Unfortunately, the man's character has been recorded and shown to the world for decades, and there are so many people who believe that he is a lot of things, but moral; especially when it comes to women and little girls. We love to think that our actions have no consequences, but they ripple like a stone tossed into a pool of water and they echo like a child screaming into a well or a muddy river. The energy from those actions flows outward and onward affecting souls until the intensity wears to but a whisper, or it gains momentum depending on how it touches another soul.

This message is a warning to stop harming the innocence in your own soul with rage, hate, or harshness because it ripples through your mind, spirit, and body which then creates actions that have consequences and often painful ones. The pain isn't always immediate sometimes it takes seconds, minutes, days, weeks, months or even years, but it will come because we live in a world that is round and circular just like a broken record.

My heart is broken for the loss of life that could have been prevented in Texas and the loss of life that can be prevented now, especially when I think about the genocides happening outside our borders and the one beginning inside our borders. Actions have consequences and though they may not be immediate, they will come with the same intensity, if not more.

What is in your heart because it will flow through your mind, body and spirit and then outward and eventually right back to you when you least expect it. It is a spiritual karmic cycle of love or hate and it flows like a whisper or a hurricane.
